Inusah Fuseini, a member of the NDC’s Ayawaso East Investigative Committee, has raised concerns about whether the party has the legal authority to cancel the results of its recent parliamentary primaries, despite growing pressure to overturn Baba Jamal’s victory over alleged vote buying.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Fuseini emphasized that the Electoral Commission (EC) was fully responsible for supervising the election and officially validating the outcome that declared Jamal the winner.
According to him, since the EC managed and certified the process as credible and fair, the issue should be treated as a legal and institutional matter rather than an emotional or political one.
He questioned the party’s power to reverse the decision, asking whether a political party can invalidate results from an election it did not conduct. Fuseini warned that doing so could undermine the credibility and independence of the Electoral Commission.
He argued that overturning an EC-certified result could weaken the integrity of the electoral system and set a dangerous precedent.
Although he acknowledged the concerns raised both publicly and within the party about the allegations, Fuseini maintained that any challenge to the results must follow the proper legal process. He stressed that the courts, not the party leadership, are the appropriate avenue for resolving disputes over certified election outcomes.
He also highlighted time limitations, noting that the deadline for submitting candidates was imminent. This, he suggested, would make it practically difficult for the party to address the matter even if it intended to take action.
