The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that he will be supplying Ghanaian smocks to African Foreign Ministers and Presidents upon demand.
These smocks, he said, would be designed in their national colours and be supplied on the next African Union summit.
“I’m gonna do fugu for all the African foreign Ministers in their national colours and then their Presidents as well.”
He further disclosed that orders had also been placed by ECOWAS foreign Minister.
“The ECOWAS foreign Minister has also told me that at the next ECOWAS meeting, I should give them fugu. They want them in their special national colours, so that is the special assignment they’ve given me.”
“The fugu is in such high demand that I hope that our young entrepreneurs, the fugu weavers, will take advantage.”
In furtherance of this, he said an instruction has been relayed to the country’s High envoys to hold a fugu and kente fair in their respective jurisdictions on Independence Day.
“The momentum has been very good, so I have instructed all our ambassadors and high commissioners to organise a fugu and kente fair for the national independence, so that we ride on this momentum positively.
“It’s good for economic diplomacy. We should promote made in Ghana and let’s expose our fabrics and our beautiful culture to other people. All of this marketing in Ghana.”
Meanwhile, he said Zambia had offered Ghana their biggest trade exhibition centre for a planned fugu and kente exhibition following mass demand.
