One dead, 15 injured in Peki–Asikuma highway crash

One person has died and 15 others sustained injuries following a road traffic accident at Peki Tsame near Mawutor Inn on the Peki–Asikuma highway in the Volta Regon.

Personnel from the Peki Fire Station responded to the incident. The team, led by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I (ADO I) Godwin Gbedemah, carried out rescue operations at the scene.

The accident occurred after a Toyota Hiace minibus, with registration number GT 7012-24, reportedly suffered a rear tyre burst, causing the vehicle to somersault.

Sixteen passengers, comprising eight males, seven females and one child, sustained various injuries. Fire officers successfully extricated and stabilised the victims before handing them over to the National Ambulance Service.

All the injured were conveyed to the Peki Government Hospital for medical treatment. However, one of the victims later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The remaining passengers are reported to be in a stable condition and receiving care.
