The National Youth Authority (NYA) has hailed the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) as a transformative social initiative, with its CEO, Osman Abdullai Ayariga, describing it as “the greatest social intervention programme in Ghana’s history.”
The remark was made during the official distribution of tools and equipment to the first batch of beneficiaries in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ayariga said, “This programme is not just about training; it is about empowering our youth with the skills, tools, and confidence to create opportunities and drive economic growth. It represents a long-term investment in Ghana’s human capital.”
Beneficiaries received equipment such as sewing machines, dryers, toolboxes, and safety gear to support careers in tailoring, carpentry, electrical work, and beauty services.
NYA CEO distributes equipment to NAP beneficiaries
The NYA CEO emphasised that the programme is fully aligned with the 2024 manifesto of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which prioritises inclusive growth, youth empowerment, and job creation.
“John Dramani Mahama has consistently highlighted that investing in young people is investing in the future of Ghana. NAP ensures that no young Ghanaian is left behind due to financial or social barriers,” he added.
Ayariga also highlighted the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in fostering industrialisation and reducing unemployment.
“By equipping our youth with practical skills and integrating apprenticeships into national development, we are building a resilient workforce ready to meet the demands of a changing economy,” he said.
Concluding his address, he encouraged beneficiaries and stakeholders to maximise the opportunities provided.
“For the young Ghanaians here today, these tools are not just equipment, they are instruments of independence, dignity, and hope. When we empower our youth, we empower Ghana.”
