President John Dramani Mahama is addressing the general public at the African Union Summit press conference on February 15, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The newly elected African Union First Vice Chair is speaking on the theme “Ancestral Debt, Modern Justice: Africa’s Unified Case for Reparations.”

His speech focuses on the debts owed to African countries and how the AU intends to tackle the issue to make the continent more financially independent.

He will also emphasise the need for African nations to unite and work toward achieving common goals.

The Thirty-Ninth (39th) Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU kicked off at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, with a strong call for African solidarity, financial independence, and a collective push to shape the global agenda.
