The National Council of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced the immediate suspension of the strike action declared on November 24, 2025, following the government’s release of funds to address several outstanding entitlements.
CETAG declared an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday, November 24, 2025, accusing the government of failing to comply with a National Labour Commission (NLC) arbitral award issued more than two years ago.
The decision was approved by the Association’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in consultation with its National Council at an emergency meeting on November 19.
In a statement issued on Saturday, February 14, 2026, the National Council confirmed that the decision to suspend the industrial action was taken unanimously between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., signalling a significant step towards resolving long-standing grievances within the sector.
Funds Released for Outstanding Entitlements
The government’s recent intervention covers the following arrears:
- All Year-Round Work Compensation
- 2023/2024 Book and Research Allowance arrears
- 2022 Research Top-Up Allowance for Akrokeri College of Education
CETAG described the release of these funds as an important development in addressing teachers’ concerns and expressed confidence in the National Labour Commission (NLC) to expedite resolution of the remaining two outstanding issues currently under adjudication.
Call to Resume Academic Activities
In light of this progress, CETAG has called on all members to resume academic duties and return to lecture halls on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The Council emphasised that the suspension of the strike reflects good faith and a commitment to continued engagement with the government and other stakeholders to ensure complete resolution of all pending matters.
The National Council also extended its gratitude to members for their solidarity, patience, and unwavering support throughout the strike period.
“Your commitment to the collective welfare of the Association has been remarkable and deeply valued,” the statement read.
Members were urged to remain united as CETAG continues to engage with the relevant authorities to secure full compliance on all outstanding issues.
