League leaders Medeama SC missed the chance to strengthen their grip at the top of the Ghana Premier League after being held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Aduana FC at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.

The match, which stretched across two days due to inclement weather, delivered late drama as Medeama captain Yussif Mubarik missed a decisive penalty in the closing moments that could have secured all three points for the hosts.

Originally scheduled for Friday, the encounter was interrupted by heavy rainfall that rendered the pitch unplayable and forced officials to suspend proceedings. The remaining minutes were completed on Saturday morning, adding an unusual twist to the contest.

Before the disruption, Medeama looked on course for victory after Salim Adams lit up the stadium with a brilliant free kick to give the home side the lead. The spectacular strike sent the Tarkwa faithful into celebration and appeared to set the stage for another strong home performance.

However, Aduana responded with resilience after the restart. Seidu Saana restored parity in the 70th minute, capitalising on a lapse in Medeama’s defence to bring the visitors back into the game and set up a tense finish.

The biggest moment of the match came late on Saturday when Medeama were awarded a penalty with just three minutes remaining. Derrick Fordjour was brought down in the box, handing the hosts a golden opportunity to snatch victory.

Captain Mubarik stepped up with the responsibility, but his effort from the spot missed the target, leaving the home crowd stunned and Aduana breathing a sigh of relief.
