The Madina Adenta Abokobi Secretariat of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has condemned what it describes as a brutal and unlawful attack on teachers of West Africa Senior High School (WASS), declaring zero tolerance for violence against educators.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 13, 2026, during school hours, when some male students believed to be from Frafraha Community Senior High School were allegedly found in a WASS classroom with female students, contrary to school regulations on unauthorised access to campus.

With many teachers engaged in activities marking the school’s 80th anniversary, a small team of staff led by Mr Nicholas Teye confronted the visitors and ordered them to leave. The situation reportedly escalated into verbal exchanges before the group exited the campus.

However, later that afternoon at about 4:30 p.m., the group allegedly returned on motorbikes with additional accomplices and launched a violent attack on the teachers.

Mr Teye was severely assaulted, sustaining injuries and trauma, while other teachers were also attacked before the staff managed to repel the assailants.

The matter has since been reported to the police, and GNAT is demanding swift investigations and prosecution of all those involved.

The Association has also directed teachers within the district to wear red armbands as a symbol of protest, while urging the Ghana Education Service and community leaders to take immediate steps to address the rising threat of violence against teachers.
