A group of former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) has sent a high-priority passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama, pleading for the immediate release of their End of Service Benefits (ESB).
The petition, dated 16th February 2026, paints a grim picture of the financial struggles facing these former public servants, many of whom claim they are currently unable to provide basic necessities for their families.
The appeal, signed by Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, the former MCE for Akatsi South, marks a significant escalation in a year-long battle for entitlements following their removal from office in January 2025.
In the letter addressed directly to the Jubilee House, the former local government heads framed their request as a humanitarian issue, urging the President to exercise the compassion associated with his high office.
The petitioners highlighted a stark contrast in treatment between political eras, noting that when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took power in 2017, the benefits of the outgoing Mahama-appointed MMDCEs were settled without delay.
“Mr. President, we are of the humble view that it is your turn to kindly honour our request just as the former President Akufo-Addo did to your first-term MMDCEs without delay in 2017… we deserve this legitimate due,” the petition stated.
The former MMDCEs revealed that their total devotion to state service has left them vulnerable in the current economic climate.
Because the role of a Chief Executive is full-time and precludes other employment, many have exited office with no secondary source of income or personal savings to fall back on.
Although the group acknowledged receiving a response from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs in January, they lamented that the “processes” highlighted in that correspondence have yet to yield any actual cash flow.
The frustration among the former appointees is palpable, as they maintain that their service to “mother Ghana” should transcend partisan lines.
The petition has also been copied to the Chief of Staff and the Minister for Local Government, signalling the group’s intent to keep the pressure on every level of the executive branch.
As of Monday afternoon, the Jubilee House has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the reminder.
