The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has recounted his longstanding relationship with former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, revealing that the businessman once invested $5 million in his enterprise without any formal agreement.

According to the Effutu MP, the financial support was extended solely on the basis of trust and friendship during a difficult period in his business life.

“When my business ran down, Kennedy gave me $5 million; we didn’t sign any agreement. He took a risk on me by giving me that money. We’re more than a family; there’s a history to it. It’s not right to cut the relationship,” he stated.

Mr Afenyo-Markin addressed the attention Mr Agyapong received after polling 644 votes in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary in his constituency, compared to 79 votes for the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia.

Some supporters had suggested that although he did not publicly campaign for Mr Agyapong, he may have influenced the outcome.

He dismissed the speculation, explaining that various initiatives and support provided to constituents over the years, including vehicles donated by Mr Agyapong, accounted for the strong showing.

“If he won in Winneba, and so what? People should stop it, we have moved past that,” he added.

He further disclosed plans to construct an ICT facility in honour of Mr Agyapong, describing it as a major project conceived five years ago.

“I’m constructing an ICT facility, which, being named after him, was conceived five years ago; it’s a big project,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said in an interview on Channel One TV on February 16, 2026.
