Alex Asafo Agyei encouraged candidates to remain confident in the process
The Ghana Scholarship Authority has organised a nationwide competitive examination for prospective beneficiaries of the Hungarian Stipendium, a scholarship programme offered by the Government of Hungary. Officials describe the exercise as a major step toward restoring fairness and transparency in the award of state scholarships.
Held with the support of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Civil Service of Ghana, the exercise attracted 3,810 candidates from across the country. The examinations, covering undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD levels, were designed to ensure that only qualified applicants are selected strictly on merit.
Officials say the move reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to making scholarship opportunities accessible to all deserving Ghanaians, regardless of background or political connection.
Director-General of the Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo Agyei, who supervised the exercise, assured candidates of a credible and transparent process.
“This examination marks a new direction for the scholarship system in Ghana. Under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, we are ensuring that scholarships are awarded based on merit and not on influence or connections,” Alex Kwaku Asafo Agyei said.
He added, “WAEC will handle the marking to ensure the highest level of integrity and credibility. Candidates who pass these examinations will be considered for the scholarship awards, and the process will be open and transparent.”
Asafo Agyei encouraged candidates to remain confident in the process, stressing that the government is committed to fairness and equal opportunity for all applicants.
