The terrorists reportedly shot the male Ghanaian traders and spared the female traders
Another Ghanaian, who was caught up in the recent terrorist attack on tomato traders in Titao, Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026, has reportedly died.
According to journalist Alhaji Gbangbanku, who reported the attack before a statement was issued by the Ministry of the Interior on Sunday, February 15, 2026, has confirmed the death of a survivor who was receiving treatment at the hospital.
The journalist had earlier reported that seven (7) Ghanaians were killed during the attack.
The death of the survivor who succumbed to injuries from the attack brings the total number of Ghanaian casualties to eight (8).
He also claimed that three Ghanaians receiving treatment have been transferred to the capital city of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, and will soon be transported to Ghana.
“According to my information, one of the injured victims at the Ouahigouya hospital has succumbed to his injuries. Three (3) more have been successfully transferred to Ouagadougou, with plans underway to [transport] them to Accra. The death toll is now eight (08),” he wrote on Facebook on Monday, February 17, 2026.
The government of Ghana is yet to make a statement on the updated number of Ghanaian casualties in the terrorist attack.
The initial report by Alhaji Gbangbanku indicated that the victims were Ghanaian male tomato buyers and the drivers of the trucks which were being used to transport the tomatoes. It added that the terrorists spared the Ghanaian traders who were women.
The journalist also shared pictures of some of the traders who were killed.
He also shared visuals from the scene of the incident, which showed some of the vehicles that were set ablaze, completely burnt, and the charred bodies of some of the victims.
The President of the Tomato and Onion Truck Drivers Association, Eric Tuffour, in an interview with JoyNews, corroborated some of the report by Gbangbanku, even though he did not state the number of traders who were reportedly killed.
The President indicated that the terrorists attacked the Ghanaian trucks because they perceived them as their enemies.
He indicated that the terrorists shot all the men and left the women unharmed.
“What actually happened was that the terrorists suspected that some of their enemies had entered the country, and our vehicle was in the town at the time.
“They shot the male passengers, leaving the female passengers unharmed. All the men who were seated on top of the vehicle were shot dead,” Tuffour is quoted as saying by JoyNews.
He added that one of the drivers locked himself inside the vehicle, but the terrorists subsequently set it ablaze.
A report by AFP (Agence France-Presse), a major global news agency, also confirmed the deaths during the attack.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior, in its statement, said that Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso is coordinating with local authorities to visit the scene of the attack in order to collect details and assist in identifying any affected Ghanaians.
