The Harmonious Chorale-Ghana, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most decorated choral ensembles, has officially released its 2026 programme, promising a year of high-stakes international competitions and significant domestic milestones.
The announcement, made on February 17, 2026, outlines a rigorous schedule that takes the choir from the concert halls of Kumasi to the global competitive stages of Europe.
The year marks a defining chapter for the group as they celebrate two decades of musical ministry and the 80th birthday of their iconic executive chairman.
The choir will commence its 2026 activities in March with a grand musical concert dedicated to Rev. Dr. Joyce Rosalind Aryee on the occasion of her 80th birthday.
The event, curated by the choir’s founder and Executive Director, James Varrick Armaah (PhD), will honour Dr. Aryee’s lifelong service to the nation and her pivotal role in the choral music fraternity.
Taking Ghana to the world: Poland and Sweden
The Harmonious Chorale is set to fly the Ghanaian flag on the international competitive circuit twice this year:
- May 2026 (Poland): The ensemble will participate in the International Festival of Orthodox Church Music in Bialystok. As one of the few African choirs invited, they will compete against global professional choirs in a showcase of liturgical and cultural artistry.
- August 2026 (Sweden): The choir returns to the World Choir Games, the “Olympics of choral music”. Having been crowned “Champions of the World Choir Games” in 2018 in South Africa, the ensemble has been confirmed for the prestigious Champions Categories, reflecting their elite status in global choral rankings.
20 Years of Harmony: The Kumasi Launch
In October 2026, the choir will head to the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, for a landmark concert that doubles as the official launch of their 20th Anniversary Celebrations.
This event marks two decades since James Varrick Armaah founded the group, evolving it from a small youth group into a global powerhouse of African and Western classical music.
