Russia has pledged its full cooperation to Ghanaian authorities in tracking and apprehending the individual accused of circulating sexually explicit images of Ghanaian women online, even as doubts linger over the suspect’s nationality and identity.

The commitment came during a formal meeting between Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov.

While the suspect has been widely reported as a Russian national, Ambassador Berdnikov clarified that Russian authorities have been unable to verify this claim.

He also noted that the name circulating in the media does not correspond to any recognised Russian personal name and appears instead to be a vulgar or inappropriate term in Russian, suggesting that the suspect may have deliberately used a false alias.

Despite these uncertainties, Ambassador Berdnikov emphasized that Russian authorities are aware of similar illicit activities linked to the individual in other jurisdictions and that specialists in Russia are actively investigating these incidents.

He assured Ghana that relevant information would be shared to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Ghanaian officials underscored that the alleged acts constitute serious violations of privacy and dignity, as well as potential cybercrime offences, and expressed their commitment to pursuing justice for the victims through diplomatic and international legal channels.

Ambassador Berdnikov reportedly acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, including the cybercrime dimensions of the case.

Although Ghana and Russia currently do not have a legally binding extradition treaty, the Russian Embassy in Accra reiterated its readiness to support Ghanaian authorities with intelligence and information sharing, a move that could prove critical in tracking and apprehending the suspect.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its determination to leverage all available channels to uncover the true identity of the individual behind the online abuse, signaling that cross-border collaboration will be central to bringing the alleged perpetrator to justice.
