The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Savelugu Constituency, Fatahiya Abdul-Aziz, has launched an initiative to empower women, support youth and promote inclusive development within the constituency.

Dubbed “Yooyili Pag’dede Foundation”, it seeks to empower women and support the youth by providing essential tools and financial support to help beneficiaries build sustainable livelihoods in agribusiness, trade and other income-generating activities.

Launching the foundation last Saturday, Hajia Fatahiya said the initiative was anchored on education, women’s empowerment and youth development.

She explained that the foundation was designed to ensure that no section of the constituency was left behind in development efforts.

“The foundation is a significant milestone in our journey towards building a more inclusive society as a constituency. It is born of the conviction that no one should be left behind in the development of our municipality, especially women who remain the backbone of many families,” she stated.

Education support

Hajia Fatahiya said data from the constituency indicated that only a small percentage of girls progressed to the university level, which was very concerning.

To address this challenge, she said she had established the Savelugu Educational Fund to support brilliant needy students.

“I launched the Savelugu Educational Fund with a seed capital of GH¢169,000 in fulfilment of my campaign promise to support brilliant needy students. Over 100 students benefited in 2025 and more students will benefit this year,” she stated.

The MP, who also serves as a Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Gender Select Committee, pledged to continue advocating policies that supported women, children and persons living with disabilities.

In addition, Hajia Fatahiya indicated that she has taken steps to improve access to clean water in several communities across the constituency and pledged to sustain the initiative.

Support for initiative

For his part, the Member of Parliament for Karaga and former Minister for Finance, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, said, “education remains the bedrock of meaningful development. If we fail to invest in our young people today, we risk compromising the future of Savelugu”.
