The police have identified the suspect at the centre of an incident of baby theft at Mamprobi Polyclinic as Latifa Salifu, a cloth seller.
She is 33 years old.
Her arrest was effected on Wednesday morning at the premises of Korle Bu teaching Hospital, where she was found with a baby suspected to have been stolen.
“She claimed she had delivered at the hospital and was discharged due to lack of beds; however, police investigation at the hospital revealed there was no record to support her claims,” the police reported.
Theft
The baby was delivered at the hospital on Saturday, February 14, 2026, to one Precious Ankoma.
Citing a report by the newborn mother, the police said on February 17, the suspect woman, dressed in a nurse uniform, took the four-day-old baby from the postnatal ward under the pretext of administering medication and disappeared thereafter.
The police say the investigation remains ongoing while efforts are underway to place the child under hospital care for safekeeping and further probe.
