Police Issue Security Measures for Healthcare Centres

The police have urged vigilance after outlining security measures to be observed by health facilities across the country.

As part of the measures, hospitals and health facilities are to enforce strict identification for staff and visitors and ensure babies are released only after proper verification.

It also directed the installation and monitoring of CCTV systems in maternity wards and other wards, including entrances.

The police further directed facilities to maintain visitor logs and restrict access to postnatal wards while reporting suspicious persons or activities immediately.

Baby Theft
It comes after a four-day-old baby was stolen from the postnatal ward of the Mamprobi Polyclinic on February 17, 2026.

Citing a report by the newborn mother, the police said a suspect identified as Latifa Salifu, dressed in a nurse uniform, took the baby under the pretext of administering medication and disappeared thereafter.

The 33-year-old was arrested on February 18, 2026, at the premises of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where she was found with a baby suspected of having been stolen.

“She claimed she had delivered at the hospital and was discharged due to lack of beds; however, police investigation at the hospital revealed there was no record to support her claims,” the police reported. Police Issue Security Guidelines for Health Facilities.
