The government of Latvia has appointed new investigators for an ongoing probe into the mysterious death of Nana Agyei Ahyia, a Ghanaian student studying at Riga Technical University.
This is to ensure credible outcomes and being directly supervised by the Latvian Interior Ministry, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
In a statement reporting the outcome of a Ghanaian visit to the country earlier this month, the Ministry said this follows the high interest of the Government of Ghana in the case.
The mother of the deceased is reported to have submitted a formal statement to the appropriate authorities as part of the official record for investigations, while the Latvians welcomed further submissions of any additional information relevant to the case to assist the investigative process.
“The Government of Ghana has demanded that the final investigative report be made available to Nana Agyei’s family, to which there was no objection from the Latvian side.”
The Ministry further assured that the government was fully committed to truth, transparency and justice.
“We shall, therefore, maintain regular engagement with the authorities of Latvia and will continue to utilise all appropriate diplomatic and legal avenues to ensure that due process is followed and justice is served.”
Meanwhile, it urged the public to avoid speculations and conjecture that could undermine ongoing investigations.
