The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has secured a private hostel facility in Osu as part of efforts to address student accommodation challenges and improve welfare on campus.
The SRC General Secretary, Thomas Amankwah Fosuhene, announced the development in a statement dated 18 February 2026, noting that the initiative forms part of the council’s broader commitment to ensuring access to safe and convenient housing options for students.
“The Kouyo-Milady-led UniMAC SRC is pleased to announce that we have successfully secured a private hostel facility in Osu as part of ongoing efforts to address student accommodation challenges,” the statement said.
According to the SRC, the move is intended to improve student welfare by providing accommodation within proximity to campus, while enhancing comfort and convenience for residents.
The hostel facility will offer a range of amenities, including air-conditioned rooms, laundry services and DStv access. It will also provide flexible accommodation arrangements, allowing between one and six students per room. The facility is located approximately a 15-minute walk or a five-minute drive from campus.
The council indicated that details regarding pricing and booking procedures will be communicated in due course, adding that efforts are underway to ensure the facility remains affordable and accessible to a broad range of students.
The SRC emphasised that the initiative reflects its commitment to pursuing practical solutions that respond directly to student needs and improve the overall academic and campus experience.
Student accommodation remains a recurring concern across many tertiary institutions in Ghana, as rising enrolment continues to place pressure on limited on-campus housing. University authorities and student leadership bodies have increasingly explored private-sector partnerships to address the shortfall.
The SRC reaffirmed its commitment to improving student welfare and strengthening support systems across the university community.
