Ghana confirms 12 new mpox cases, total now 1,021

Ghana has recorded 12 new cases of mpox, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 1,021 from the previous 1,009.

The figures were released on February 16, 2026, by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), monitoring the outbreak.

The latest update shows a steady rise in reported cases, as public health officials continue to track the spread of the viral disease across the country.

Mpox spreads mainly through close physical contact with an infected person. Symptoms include fever, rash, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills and fatigue.

GHS have advised the public to remain alert and to report to the nearest health facility if any of these symptoms develop. They have also urged citizens to observe proper personal hygiene to reduce the risk of infection.

Once largely associated with parts of Central and West Africa, mpox has drawn global attention in recent years following outbreaks in several countries outside the continent.
