A medical officer at the Emergency Unit of the Kumawu Government Hospital, Dr Fred Twene Amankwaa says he is traumatised after allegedly being attacked by Kofi Dougan, a pharmacist at the facility, while performing his duties.
The assault, which left him with bruises and torn clothing, has affected his psychological well-being and ability to work efficiently.
In an interview with JoyNews and monitored by GhanaWeb on Thursday February 19, 2026, he stated, “I’m really traumatised.I cannot even work efficiently. The way I used to work at first.”
Recounting the incident, he stated that he had gone to the pharmacy to pick up medication for an emergency patient.

“When I ran there, there were two people there. One is the girlfriend to the pharmacist. Then I gave the card to her because he was on duty as of that time.
“She removed all the medicine from me. It was left with only one medication. Then he told me I should go and make the payment because the patient doesn’t have insurance also. And I said, ‘Oh no, the patient is on admission and it is also an emergency. So, give it to me and let me send it to the patient’ ” he narrated.
According to him, the pharmacist claimed he had no business there and physically assaulted him without any provocation.
“He became angry with me insulted me first, and held my collar and he even pushed me, he asked me to walk out, and he tried to slap me,” he stated.

Despite the ordeal, he eventually took the medicine to the ward.
Meanwhile, the suspect, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been granted bail by the police.
