Dr Bawumia paid tribute to the late Alhaji Abubakar Sidick
Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the late manager of Radio Univers, Alhaji Abubakar Sidick, gave him his first media interview.
According to Dr Bawumia, while working at the Bank of Ghana in the 2000s, he attended an event at the University of Ghana campus. There, he met Alhaji Sidick, who had a fruitful discussion with him and subsequently granted him an interview on various issues.
Dr Bawumia noted that his first media interview at Radio Univers opened many doors for him and significantly shaped his career trajectory.

“May Allah accept our prayers for Alhaji Abubakar Sidick and grant him Jannah. I have known him for about 26 years. I met him in the year 2000 at Legon when I was at the Bank of Ghana and went to speak to students for a program. He invited me to Radio Univers, and that interview was my very first in Ghana. I had never spoken on any radio or TV station before,” he said during a funeral event held at the late Alhaji Sidick’s residence in Madina on February 19, 2026.
He added, “That interview remains unforgettable. We discussed many issues and remained friends since then. Even when I was in Zimbabwe in 2011, he reached out to me while seeking medical attention in South Africa. We maintained a close friendship, and it is very sad that he is no longer with us.”
In his tribute, Dr Bawumia prayed for Alhaji Sidick’s peaceful rest and commended his enduring legacy in the media space.
