Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he will donate two months of his salary to the Ghana Sports Fund.
He made the announcement while speaking in Parliament, where he stressed the need for the Sports Fund Bill to be passed into law. He said the fund could make a strong contribution to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and help transform sports financing in the country.
The minister made the pledge after commending the National Investment Bank for donating GHC 100,000 to the fund.
“I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Fund effective February 2026,” Mr Adams said.
“If we expect the private sector to invest, if we expect (Sports) Federations to reform, if we expect young athletes to commit, then leadership must also commit.”
He also called on fellow lawmakers and government officials to support the initiative.
“I respectfully call on members of this house, Ministers of State and the Executive to support this fund in tangible ways. Government has delivered the framework,” he added.
The Ghana Sports Fund is designed to mobilise resources to support sports development, infrastructure, and athlete welfare across the country.
