The Upper West Regional Police has announced that three men ,Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad and Adams Alhassan have been convicted for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in Wa West District.
In a statement issued on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the police said the accused appeared before the Wa District Magistrate Court on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 and pleaded guilty to the charges.
“The accused persons, who had earlier been remanded in custody, reappeared before the Court, where His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako presided over the case. They pleaded guilty to the offences of possession of firearms and ammunitions without lawful authority.
“The Court convicted the accused persons on their own pleas and sentenced each to a total fine of Two Hundred (200) penalty units, equivalent to GH¢12,400.00 or in default, Nine (9) months’ imprisonment”, it noted.

The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribare, urged the public to actively support the fight against crime.
“We rely on the cooperation of citizens; timely and credible information from the public is vital to keeping our communities safe,” it added.
