President John Dramani Mahama has remarked that the essence of Ramadan is not rooted in the abstinence from food.
However, in the disciplines of discipline, compassion, and generosity.
Delivering a message to Ghanaian muslims in a broadcast on Thursday, when the fast began, he urged practitioners to uphold these virtues while extending his family’s warmest greetings.
“Ramadan is truly a special time; a month of reflection, renewal, and coming together as one community. As you begin your fast, may your hearts be purified and your imān strengthened.
“May Allah, the Most Merciful, grant you good health, peace of mind, and abundant mercies throughout these thirty days. May your prayers be answered, your good deeds be accepted, and may this Ramadan bring you closer to your Creator and to one another.”
He urged the strengthening of the bonds of unity, love, and peace in communities and across Ghana.
Ramadan
During this season, all Muslims who deem themselves fit enough are mandated to observe the fast from sunrise to sunset each day.
Muslims have the option to take in a pre-dawn meal before the first mandatory prayer of Muslims.
At the end of the 30-day fast, Eid al-Fitr, a festival of feasting marking the end of the fast, is observed.
