The government of Ghana says it is pursuing an international arbitration to delimit the maritime boundary with Togo.
The move is in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
“This decision follows eight years of bilateral negotiations which, despite sustained engagement, have not yielded a mutually agreed outcome,” the Jubilee House said in a statement issued on February 20, 2026.
It added that Ghana had taken this step to prevent further escalation of incidents that have created tensions between certain institutions of both countries.
It is aimed at promoting an amicable and lawful resolution in the spirit of good neighbourliness and continued cooperation.
The government of Togo has since been notified.
