Ga Central Assembly cuts sod for massive development projects

The Ga Central Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region has cut sod for the construction of several development projects aimed at improving the quality of education, health care as well as access to potable water in the municipality. 

The sod cutting exercise, which took place at the Agape Electoral Area, reaffirmed the assembly’s commitment to inclusive development across the municipality. 

The beneficiary electoral areas include Ablekuma, Fanmilk, Abease, Olebu, Santa Maria, Antie-Aku, Israel, Lomnava, Kwashiebu, Anyaa East, Anyaa West, Agape Pentecost and Sowutuom.

The projects include the construction of an 18-unit classroom block complex at Ablekuma and Agape electoral areas, six-unit classroom block at Antie Aku, four storey office Annexe at Sowutuom-Antie Aku for Ga Central Municipality, AstroTurf pitch at Israel Park, continuation and completion of three-storey health facility at Ablekuma Abease, fencing /retaining wall, security post and reclamation of low land, a storm drain at Mambo-Sowutuom.

A total of seven mechanised boreholes are also to be constructed at Olebu, Kwashiebu, Lomnava, Agape Pentecost, Antie Aku, Anyaa West and Ablekuma Fanmilk electoral areas within three months, while the building projects would take between six to 12 months for completion, with an assurance from the contractors to deliver quality services.

The Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Emmanuel Allotey Addotey, was joined by the Municipal Coordinating Director, John Owusu Koranteng, heads of departments, assembly members, traditional leaders, stakeholders and residents of beneficiary communities to assist him in the sod-cutting ceremony.

Addressing the gathering at the event, the MCE, Mr Addotey, noted that the symbolic sod-cutting represented not just the beginning of construction of the facilities but a renewal of hope for the residents within the municipality, noting that ‘’these are direct responses to your needs expressed during community engagement, durbars and town hall meetings we had with you’’.

The MCE charged the various contractors to do their work with professionalism, urgency and integrity.

’You are building not just an infrastructure but hope and opportunities for generations yet unborn and therefore the quality and level of commitment and dedication you apply to these projects would directly shape the future and well-being of these communities,” he stated.

Job creation

He urged the contractors to engage the youth in their project execution in order to create job opportunities in the municipality. In the same vein, he advised the residents of the beneficiary communities to cultivate the culture of maintenance when the projects were completed and handed over to them.

The Municipal Director of Education, Ibrahim Mumuni, lauded the government’s interest in educational infrastructure, stressing ‘’the projects are not just infrastructure but an investment in human capital which affirms the fundamental human rights of the people in the municipality’’.
