The Jasikan Circuit Court has remanded four persons into police custody for two weeks over the possession of compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in two separate cases heard on February 20, 2026.

All four suspects pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and trafficking in narcotics.

They are to reappear before the court, presided over by His Honour Mr Lambert Kerigah.

In the first case, involving a 50-year-old Kpando-based driver, Justice Nelson Amlodo, and Olayele Yussuf, a 25-year-old Nigerian, police discovered 1,482 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in a hidden compartment of a Benz Cargo truck with registration number GS 3831-09. The vehicle was intercepted at Bodada in the Jasikan District of the Oti Region on February 15, 2026.

According to the prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Seth-Vincent Kpodo, the Jasikan Police Command received information that a vehicle would be travelling between February 13 and 15 from Hohoe through Likpe and Jasikan to Nkwanta carrying the suspected substances.

He said surveillance was mounted along the route and, on February 15, 2026, the vehicle carrying the two suspects was arrested at Bodada at about 4.00 a.m. on suspicion. An initial search, however, revealed nothing incriminating on board.

Not satisfied, the police conducted a further search, which uncovered a hidden compartment. The compartment was forcibly opened at Jasikan, revealing the suspected substances.

DSP Kpodo said the substances were tested by the Narcotics Board at Jasikan and proved positive as Indian hemp.

He said the two suspects, Amlodo and Olayele, were subsequently arraigned before the court.

In the second case, two male suspects, Ewulator Felix, a 37-year-old businessman, and Emmanuel Yaodea, a 40-year-old driver, have also been remanded into police custody for possession of compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp. They were arrested in a Hyundai Atos taxi cab with registration number VR 188-16 on the Lekanti to Kute road in the Jasikan District last Tuesday.

The arrest was made during an operation code-named Motherland mounted at Baglo in the Jasikan District.

The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Seth-Vincent Kpodo, said the two suspects, Yaodea and Ewulator, were arrested at about 10.20 p.m. with 48 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in fertiliser bags.
