Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Awudu Abdul Razak of the Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has detailed how he was transferred from his post to a village following the arrest of a traditional leader.

Speaking in a video shared by the Crime Check Foundation, ASP Awudu stated that whenever the police make arrests involving influential individuals, “big men” often intervene to influence the outcome of such cases.

According to him, he once arrested a chief, an action that did not sit well with the traditional ruler.

He explained that after the arrest, the chief told him he had disgraced him and warned that he would be transferred from his post.

ASP Awudu said within three to four days of the incident, he was indeed transferred to a village called Kyekyewere.

“The big men normally do this. You arrest someone and they will get to know that you have arrested him. While you are there, a call will come and you cannot say you won’t listen to the call,” he stated.

Citing his experience, he added, “In one instance, I arrested a chief and sent him to the office. He told me I had disgraced him and that he would have me transferred. I was not surprised when, within three to four days, I was sent to a village called Kyekyewere.”
