Kwesi Pratt Jnr is the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper
Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has criticised the New Patriotic Party over claims that a recent terrorist attack on Ghanaian tomato farmers was due to the absence of a substantive Defence Minister.
Reacting to the assertion on Pan African TV, Pratt described the argument as illogical, insisting that the Defence Ministry is not vacant and that security operations are ongoing.

“How are these people thinking? How do they do the analysis? In the first place, the defense ministry is not vacant. As we speak, there’s a deputy defense minister and in fact, from all the reports that I’m getting from conversations with soldiers and so on, this deputy defense minister is a gem,” he stated.
He added that the deputy minister enjoys positive feedback from personnel within the security services.
“The soldiers speak about his modesty, the way he so easily relates to them and so on. He’s working and he’s doing well. In fact, I’ve been wondering why he has not been confirmed as defense minister, given all the reports that we are all hearing about him,” Pratt said.
Questioning the basis of the NPP’s claim, Pratt argued that the presence of a Defence Minister would not necessarily have prevented the incident involving Ghanaian farmers reportedly attacked while travelling to Burkina Faso.
“…What is the link between this attack and the absence of a minister? If you had a minister of defense, would he have been on the trucks which took the women to Burkina Faso bearing an automatic weapon or what?
“I mean, if there was a minister of defense, would he have deployed escorts? How does the absence of a minister of defense find expression in this terrorist attack on a woman? I don’t understand,” he criticised.
Pratt further criticised what he described as the quality of political commentary surrounding the incident.

“Some of the statements they make, I mean, really, Jesus Christ of Nazareth. You begin to wonder, are these people going to seek our mandate? Some of the statements they make, unbelievable,” he concluded.
