The Western Regional Police Command has arrested three persons in connection with the transportation of suspected narcotic substances intercepted within the region.

Briefing the media, the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said the arrest was made around 5 p.m. last Sunday.

She said the first truck was intercepted at the Assorko Assaman Police Barrier by officers on duty.

Upon stopping the vehicle, three suspects fled the scene, but one was apprehended, Supt Adiku said.

The arrested suspect subsequently led the police to a second truck parked at Nkroful Junction, she revealed.

They have been identified as Moses Kweku Tawiah, 44; Isaac Kwame Kunto, 44, and Kobina Forson, 55.

Supt Adiku disclosed that Kunto and Forson were arrested when they attempted to bribe police officers with GH¢69,000 to secure the release of their colleague, Tawiah.

The officers declined the offer and immediately arrested the two suspects.

The trucks were later offloaded, revealing 152 large bales of suspected narcotic substances.

Each bale reportedly contained about 82 pieces of compressed substances believed to be Indian hemp, wrapped in yellow packaging.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were transporting the substances from Koforidua and were heading towards Côte d’Ivoire before they were intercepted in the Western Region.

The police said investigations were ongoing, and the suspects would be arraigned.

They face charges related to possession and trafficking of narcotic substances.

Supt Adiku advised the public to desist from engaging in illegal drug-related activities, warning that the command remained on high alert.
