Michael Ababio was fatally stabbed outside Foleshill Library

An 18-year-old man has died after being stabbed during disorder outside a library in Coventry.

Michael Ababio was fatally injured outside Foleshill Library on Broad Street at about 21:40 GMT on Sunday and was pronounced dead in hospital early on Monday morning, West Midlands Police said.

A 19-year-old man, who was also taken to hospital with stab wounds after being found nearby, was later arrested on suspicion of murder.

Ababio’s twin brother has paid tribute on behalf of his family, saying: “He aligned with everything that I liked. Words cannot express the pain we are all feeling right now.”

In a tribute released through police, Ababio’s twin said most people “won’t know what it is like to have a twin, but I do”.

“Michael was more than just a brother, he was my second half.”

The sibling also said: “You will be greatly missed. Our family will never be the same, but we hope you’re in a better place now.”

Detective Superintendent Jim Munro, from the force’s homicide team, said: “If you saw what happened, or you know why someone may wanted to have hurt Michael, please do the right thing for his family and let us know.”

Police are also investigating further disorder that happened on nearby Foleshill Road about 20 minutes after the fatal attack – although the force does not believe that incident is directly related to Ababio’s death.

Four people have been arrested in connection with that disorder.

One has since been charged with assault and remanded in custody. The others have been bailed while the investigation continues.
