As criticism intensifies over the devastation caused by illegal mining, comedian DKB is calling for restraint rather than haste from the presidency.
The Ghanaian comedian shared his views during a recent discussion on UCook with Empress Gifty. He maintained that President John Dramani Mahama should not be forced into swift action over the galamsey crisis.
According to DKB, the roots of the problem predate the current administration. He pointed to decisions taken under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, insisting that Mahama assumed office with the burden already in place.
“JM, don’t let anybody stress you. Solve the galamsey issue when you want, because you are not the one who started it. You are not the one who gave over 200 licenses to galamsey operators.
“You are not the one who passed the law allowing mining in forest reserves. It is evil. Nobody should put pressure on JM,” he said.
DKB also addressed calls from some quarters for the declaration of a state of emergency, arguing that such a move should rest solely on the president’s judgment.
“Those saying he should declare a state of emergency should back off,” DKB further stated.
