In a bold move to demonstrate personal commitment to Ghana’s sporting renaissance, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has pledged to donate two months of his salary to the newly launched Ghana Sports Fund.

The Minister made the announcement during a parliamentary session last Thursday, where he highlighted the transformative potential of the Sports Funds Bill and its capacity to make a substantial contribution to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Hon. Adams, who is also the Member of Parliament for the Buem Constituency, stated that the deductions would begin in February 2026, emphasising that true reform requires sacrifice from the top.

“If we expect the private sector to invest, if we expect federations to reform, and if we expect our young athletes to commit, then leadership must also demonstrate commitment,” Hon. Adams told the House. “I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Fund.”

He extended a respectful appeal to his fellow parliamentarians, ministers of state, and members of the executive branch to support the fund through tangible contributions.

“The government has provided the legislative framework; now we must all help build its foundation,” he added.

The Ghana Sports Fund is designed to mobilise and manage financial resources transparently, targeting critical areas such as athlete welfare, grassroots development, infrastructure upgrades, and elite performance preparation.

The minister’s personal pledge follows an initial institutional donation from the National Investment Bank (NIB), which contributed GH¢100,000 as the first corporate entity to back the initiative.
