The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has charged Christians in public service not to compromise on their principles under any circumstance.
He made the call at a thanksgiving service in honour of the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Dzietror, at the Jehovah Shammah Assemblies of God in Accra.
Present at the service was the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
Rev. Wengam reminded Mr Dzietror, who is also a Pastor of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, that his elevation to the position of Clerk to Parliament was an act of God, and that it would take divine grace and mercy for him to excel.
The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God asked Mr Dzietror to serve with absolute diligence, dedication and commitment in his mission as Clerk to Parliament, adding that he should serve in humility, fear of God and holiness.
The General Superintendent emphasised that the “Bible is the supreme, real constitution of the Assemblies of God which is currently the largest Pentecostal movement in the world.”
“All our beliefs, rules and practices flow from the Bible. Assemblies of God does not teach its members to go into public service and live anyhow but follow the dictates of the Bible and the very solid doctrine of the church.”
He said Mr Dzietror, therefore, should bear in mind that he was not serving as Clerk in his own name but representing Assemblies of God and Christ in Parliament.
“So, you must uphold the virtues of integrity, honesty and Christlikeness, “ Rev. Wengam added.
For his part, Mr Dzietror pledged to uphold his Christian beliefs, values and principles as Clerk to Parliament.
The Parliamentary Service Board appointed Mr Djietror in December 2024 as the new Clerk to Parliament.
Mr Djietror, who was one of four deputy clerks considered for the position during an extraordinary board meeting in November, officially assumed office on January 1, 2025.
A lawyer and one of the longest serving procedural clerks of Parliament, he held many positions, including the Deputy Clerk in charge of Corporate and Financial Management Services, acting Deputy Clerk for Legislative Management Services and former Principal Assistant Clerk.
In addition to serving as the Head of the Table Office, Mr Djietror had in the past served as the clerk to various committees of Parliament, including the committees on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the Business Committee, Committee on Judiciary as well as Committee on Foreign Affairs of Parliament.
By dint of hard work, the Speaker of the Eighth Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Service Board, Mr Bagbin, issued an appointment letter to the incoming Clerk to enable him to commence work from January 1, 2025.
