Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has alleged that the terrorists responsible for the killing and attack on Ghanaian tomato traders in Burkina Faso were supplied by Ukraine.

Speaking at an event in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Pratt said the information was not a rumor but was based on what he described as admissions by Ukrainian intelligence of involvement in terrorist activities in the Sahel region.

“The terrorists who killed the Ghanaian woman going to buy tomatoes were supplied by Ukraine, and this is not a rumor,” he said.

“Ukrainian intelligence itself has admitted that it is involved in terrorist activities in the Sahel,” he claimed.

According to him, any country interfering in the affairs of Sahel states or supporting armed groups seeking to control the region’s resources should be considered an adversary of Ghana.

He warned that such actions could undermine regional stability and threaten the interests of the people.

“Comrades and friends, any country that is subverting the Sahel states is our enemy. Any country that aids forces fighting the people of the Sahel, who are determined to wage a struggle to control their resources, cannot be our ally and cannot be our friend,” he warned.

Pratt further called on the government of President John Dramani Mahama to take urgent notice of the situation.

“That is why I want to call on the Mahama administration to stay alert,” he added.

His comments follow a deadly terrorist attack on tomato traders, believed to have been carried out by suspected jihadist militants.

The attack initially claimed the lives of seven members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association who were conducting legitimate business in the area. An eighth victim, who had been battling severe injuries, later died, bringing the total number of fatalities to eight.
