As police conducted searches and secured the suspects, bystanders cheered
Ghana Police Service officers have arrested a group of suspected notorious phone snatchers along the Achimota Forest overhead stretch on February 25, 2026.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows the scene near the Achimota Forest roadside, with police vehicles parked as a crowd of onlookers gathers.
The suspects, appearing dishevelled and subdued, were seen escorted by uniformed officers and plainclothes CID personnel from the bush, where they reportedly fled after snatching phones and other valuables from slow-moving vehicles near the Achimota roundabout.
Police arrest three over illegal firearms, alleged robbery plot
As police conducted searches and secured the suspects, bystanders could be seen cheering, recounting the gang’s previous notorious acts.
The arrests come amid a noticeable rise in phone-snatching incidents in the Achimota area.
On February 21, 2026, a woman had her phone snatched by a quick-handed thief at the same location. Dashcam footage of the incident, widely shared online, showed the suspect weaving through traffic on foot, reaching into the woman’s vehicle to grab her phone before fleeing.
Commuters have long expressed concern about the vulnerability of this stretch, where heavy traffic and dense foliage provide cover for opportunistic criminals.
The Ghana Police Service has not yet issued an official statement regarding the arrests.
