Member of Parliament for Damango, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has appealed to John Dramani Mahama to place youth unemployment and the rising cost of living at the centre of his upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA).

With the national address scheduled for tomorrow, the Damango legislator stressed that joblessness and economic hardship remain the most urgent issues confronting young people across the country.

While acknowledging the importance of discussions on macroeconomic stability and post-COVID-19 recovery, Mr Jinapor argued that governance must ultimately translate into tangible improvements in the everyday lives of citizens, particularly the youth.

He warned that persistent unemployment continues to threaten the prospects of Ghana’s younger generation, restricting their opportunities and weakening their potential contribution to national development.

According to him, many young Ghanaians are looking forward to hearing clear and practical policy measures aimed at generating sustainable employment and easing financial pressures on households.

Mr Jinapor recognised steps taken by government to stabilise the economy following the COVID-19 pandemic but maintained that stronger focus is needed on interventions that directly lower living costs and expand job opportunities.

He therefore urged the President to use the SONA to outline targeted and realistic strategies that would address these concerns and renew confidence among the country’s youth.
