The Tamale District Court has remanded a 48-year-old businessman for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl on three occasions and subsequently convincing her to abort an ensuing pregnancy.

He has been identified as Abdallah Mohammed.

The court remanded him into police custody to reappear before the court on March 4, 2026.

Incident
A formal complaint by the victim’s father suggested that she left home in Nyanshegu, a suburb of Tamale, for school on February 13, only to return on Sunday, February 15, at about 1:00 pm.

After interrogation, she confided in her father about an affair with the Sakasaka-based businessman for the past six months.

According to her, the accused had been having continued unprotected sex with her.

“Further inquiry by the Police indicated that, for the three (3) times he has lured her to have the affairs, he compensates her with GHc30. Having informed the accused of the pregnancy, he then took her to Abu Gauso Hospital in Sognaayili, also a suburb of Tamale, hence the resulting abortion.”

“Investigations from the medical officer at the said hospital revealed that the accused introduced himself as the victim’s uncle and falsely informed the medical officer that the victim was 18 years old and thus, had been impregnated by an unknown individual. He therefore requested that the pregnancy be terminated.”

A Police-advised medical examination confirmed the offence.

Arrested
On his arrest, the accused admitted to the crime, adding that the victim was his girlfriend.

“He also admitted to giving her money on each visit.”
