The military carrying Sandra who remains unconscious after the stampede
106 days after the Kumasi military recruitment stampede in November 2025, a female victim who had come as a hopeful recruit to join the military remains unconscious.
The victim, identified as Sandra Baafi Boateng, was critically injured along with four others during the stampede. The other victims have since received treatment and been discharged.

Despite her family’s efforts to secure the best care, Sandra’s condition has deteriorated, and she remains in a critical state.
In response, the Ministry of Defence facilitated her transfer, airlifting her from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to the 37 Military Hospital for specialized treatment.
A video shared by GHOne on February 26, 2026, on Facebook shows military personnel preparing Sandra for the transfer.
In the footage, she can be seen being carefully moved from one bed to another under the supervision of medically trained personnel.
Background
Five recruits were injured during the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) screening exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, an incident confirmed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, on November 12, 2025.
He explained that the victims sustained serious injuries but were receiving medical attention.
On the same day in Accra, a similar stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium resulted in the deaths of six female recruits, with several others injured.

The military confirmed that a total of 28 people were admitted to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. Of these, six died, five were placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 12 remained in critical condition.
