Personnel of the Ghana Navy are embarking on a search and rescue operation following an attack on fishermen at Awutu Senya in the Central Region.
A statement by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said the navy was undertaking the exercise with the support of the Ghana Air Force.
The operation has been ongoing at sea, 35 nautical miles off the coast of Senya Bereku, since dawn, when the gunpoint attack unfolded.
It therefore called for public restraint.
“The Operation is ongoing, and the Ghana Armed Forces appeals to all to remain calm. Further details to be communicated.”
It is reported that over 50 fishermen were taken hostage in the said attack.
