UK-based Ghanaian gospel singer Joseph Matthew is confidently banking on his reggae song, Love In You, to bring home the Reggae Song of the Year award at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
Despite Charterhouse, the organisers of the TGMA having yet to release the official list of nominees, Matthew’s faith in his song remains unwavering.
The song, which showcases his unique “Afro-Gospel” fusion, has been gaining traction among fans and industry insiders alike.
Speaking on the hype surrounding his song, Matthew expressed his optimism, saying, “I’m feeling great about Love In You. I believe it deserves to be recognised in the Reggae category at the TGMA”.
“Being a gospel artiste shouldn’t disqualify me. I believe the song has all it takes to get a spot in the category and win as well,” he said.
With its universal message of compassion and world-class production, Love In You has already garnered support from entertainment mogul Bullgod, who praised the song as a “non-negotiable contender” for the award.
He, however, mentioned that with Stonebwoy dominating the Reggae/Dancehall category in recent years, Joseph Matthew will face tough competition.
“If there is no public voting, I’m sure Matthew can win. But because the likes of Stonebwoy have the numbers, he may not win; however, the song certainly deserves a nomination,” he said in a recent interview.
Over the years, Joseph Matthew’s songs such as Hallelujah, Nyame Ye, My Story, Not Alone and The Name, have become a source of comfort, inspiration and joy for countless fans across the country and beyond.
Even though he has been plying his trade in the UK, Joseph Matthew is making steady progress back home.
In 2022, Joseph was emboldened to host his maiden concert at the Perez Dome and performed at the Tema Praise Street festival in December 2024.
