The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has announced the expansion of its service centres across the country as part of efforts to eliminate the influence of middlemen and enhance service delivery.
The move forms part of a broader reform agenda aimed at improving efficiency, reducing corruption, and ensuring that motorists can access services directly without relying on unofficial intermediaries, commonly referred to as “goro boys.”
According to the Authority, the expansion will increase accessibility to licensing and vehicle-related services while reducing waiting times at existing offices.
Officials say the initiative aligns with ongoing modernisation efforts, including digitisation and improved customer service systems, to restore public confidence in the institution.
The expansion is also expected to address long-standing complaints from motorists about delays, congestion, and alleged extortion at some service points.
By decentralising operations and strengthening monitoring systems, the DVLA hopes to close gaps that have historically allowed middlemen to thrive.
The Authority has encouraged the public to utilise official channels and report any attempts by unauthorised persons to solicit payments on their behalf.
The latest development comes at a time when the DVLA is under public scrutiny over its proposed overseas licensing initiative, with observers closely watching how the Authority balances reform efforts at home and abroad.
