In a remarkable show of love and solidarity, the Modern Gospel Awards (MOGA) board and their media team traveled to Begoro to stand by UK-based gospel artiste Mercy Ochere as she laid her beloved mother, Obp. Juliana Ama Awiaa Darkwa, to rest last weekend. Their presence brought comfort, reassurance, and hope to Mercy and her family during this deeply emotional time.

For Mercy Ochere, a two-time winner of the Modern Gospel Awards—including Worship Artiste of the Year 2024 and UK-Based Artiste of the Year 2025—the loss of her mother was a moment of great loss. Yet what could have been a weekend of sorrow turned into a touching display of support, as the MOGA board made the long journey from Accra to Begoro, fully participating in the funeral rites from Friday through Sunday.

The delegation, led by Country Director Nana Amo Baffour, Chief Operations Officer Frank Owusu Asiamah, and Ambassador in Charge of International Nominees Debbielyn Jackson, did more than attend. They consoled, encouraged, and shared in the mourning with Mercy and her children, who also emerged as winners last year, her son as Instrumentalist of the Year and her daughter as Discovery Artiste of the Year in 2025.

Beyond their emotional support, the MOGA board raised a significant financial contribution to assist with funeral expenses and pledged to cover any additional costs that may arise. Their thoughtful gesture left Mercy Ochere and her family deeply touched, and many mourners were moved by the unprecedented level of care and solidarity from an awards institution.

In Begoro, the Modern Gospel Awards proved that their commitment to winners extends far beyond the stage. Through their compassion, presence, and support, they transformed moments of grief into moments of hope, showing that true honor is not measured by trophies alone, but by standing by loved ones when they need it most.

The Modern Gospel Awards (MOGA) celebrates and honors outstanding gospel artistes while supporting and uplifting the gospel music community locally and internationally.
