John Dramani Mahama has declared that Ghana’s economy is steadily regaining stability and credibility, assuring Parliament and the nation that firm policy actions by his administration are beginning to bear fruit.
Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address before Parliament on Friday, the President said his government took bold and difficult decisions to reset the economy after inheriting deep fiscal and structural challenges.
“I promised then that just as I have confronted and overcome crises in the past, I will reset our economy and return us to a path of growth, progress and development,” he told lawmakers.
President Mahama explained that his administration chose discipline, reform and stability over short-term political convenience. He stressed that rebuilding confidence in Ghana’s economic management required tough but necessary sacrifices.
He reminded Parliament that during his previous address, he cautioned that restoring economic credibility and integrity would demand prudent and, at times, painful measures.
“Today, Mr Speaker, I can say to you with confidence Ghana is back. Ghana is working again and Ghana is open for business,” he declared to applause from members of the House.
According to the President, key macroeconomic indicators are showing steady improvement, laying a foundation for sustained growth and accelerated national development. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to reforms aimed at strengthening fiscal discipline, attracting both local and foreign investment, and improving the quality of life for citizens.
President Mahama emphasised that his administration deliberately chose discipline over waste, reform over excuses and stability over speculation — principles he described as central to Ghana’s ongoing economic recovery agenda.
