Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has issued a stirring call to action for the Ghanaian diaspora, urging church leaders to become active architects of the nation’s future.
Speaking at the 2026 Ambassador’s Breakfast Meeting with the Council of Ghanaian Pastors and Churches (COGPAC-USA) on February 25, 2026, the envoy emphasised that the responsibility of developing Ghana transcends political boundaries and carries a deep spiritual mandate.
The high-level engagement, held at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, DC, served as a platform to align the influential Ghanaian clergy in the United States with the government’s agenda for economic transformation and youth empowerment.
Addressing the gathering of spiritual leaders, Ambassador Smith noted that the emotional and cultural bond between Ghanaians abroad and their homeland must be translated into tangible developmental efforts.
He urged the pastors to use their pulpits to ensure that the spirit of “Ghanaianness” remains vibrant across the Atlantic.
“The land that nurtured us… and shaped our identities still calls on us,” the Ambassador remarked, highlighting the enduring connection that should drive every Ghanaian in the diaspora toward patriotism and national pride.
Mr Smith’s message went beyond spiritual guidance, tasking the religious leaders to leverage their extensive networks to attract foreign direct investment. He encouraged them to identify and partner with organisations and individuals in the US who are eager to explore the vast commercial opportunities within Ghana’s borders.
The goal, he explained, is to create a sustainable pipeline of investment that generates jobs for the “teeming youth” and provides a solid foundation for the next generation.
“Nation-building is not only political; it is spiritual; it is service. It is stewardship,” Mr Smith stated, redefining the role of the clergy as essential contributors to the country’s progress.
As the Embassy team prepares to embark on a nationwide tour across the United States to promote Ghana’s investment potential and strengthen bilateral ties, the Ambassador requested the intercessory support of the Council. He described the mission’s work as preaching “the good news about Ghana’s opportunities”, expressing a firm hope that these efforts would bear fruit not only for the present but for “generations yet unborn”.
In a swift response to the Ambassador’s charge, the leadership of COGPAC-USA affirmed their commitment to the national cause.
The Council outlined a strategic roadmap to use their administrative offices and congregational influence to act as intermediaries for American businesses looking to enter the Ghanaian market.
The pledge marks a significant step in “People-to-People” diplomacy, ensuring that the Ghanaian Diaspora in the US remains a potent force for good in the ongoing narrative of Ghana’s economic recovery and industrial growth.
