Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu has expressed heartfelt gratitude following his appointment as Ghana’s High Commissioner-designate to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
President John Dramani Mahama named Baba Sadiq to the diplomatic post, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially confirming the appointment on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The statement indicated that he will assume office pending the completion of the necessary diplomatic processes.
Reacting in a social media post, Baba Sadiq described himself as “profoundly honoured” by the confidence reposed in him by President Mahama.
“I am profoundly honoured by the confidence of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama in appointing me as Ghana’s High Commissioner-Designate to Nigeria,” he wrote.
He also extended appreciation to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his support, and pledged to serve Ghana with “diligence and integrity” in his new role.
His appointment comes on the heels of the recall of Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, widely known as Baba Jamal, who had been serving as Ghana’s envoy to Nigeria.
Baba Jamal was withdrawn from the post after opting to contest the Ayawaso East by-election following the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Nasser Mahama Toure.
With the nomination of Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu as his successor, President Mahama appears to be charting a new course in Ghana’s diplomatic engagement with Abuja, while also promoting a prominent member of the governing party.
A respected figure in Ghana’s creative and media landscape, Baba Sadiq most recently contested the Okaikwei Central seat as the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate in the 2024 general elections.
Meanwhile, colleagues and industry players within Ghana’s creative sector have been showering Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu with congratulatory messages following news of his appointment.
Prominent figures in music, media and entertainment have taken to social media to celebrate his elevation to the diplomatic post, describing it as a proud moment for the creative community.
Many have praised his journey from entertainment executive to public servant, expressing confidence that he will bring innovation, cultural insight and strong industry networks to his new role in Nigeria.
For several creatives, his appointment is seen not only as a personal milestone but also as recognition of the growing influence of Ghana’s creative economy in national leadership and international representation.
