Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has expressed strong confidence in the party’s prospects in the Ayawaso East by-election.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Tuesday, Mr Boadu argued that many voters are disappointed with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming the party has failed to fulfil key campaign promises.
He suggested that the alleged dissatisfaction is already being reflected in voting patterns.
“The people have told us they’ve been deceived. They were promised a 24-hour economy — they have not seen it. They were promised a reduction in petrol and electricity prices — same. Water bills were to come down — they have not seen it. Reduction in school fees — they have not seen it,” he said.
Turning to Nima, Mr Boadu acknowledged that since 1992 the constituency has not elected an NPP parliamentary candidate, but maintained that the current contest could mark a turning point.
“You can check from 1992 — we have not won here. But I think it is coming home because the people of Nima have realised that their voices have not been heard,” he stated.
He further claimed that development projects within the constituency have largely been undertaken by the NPP, adding that residents had acknowledged this during campaign engagements.
“Any development you see around was done by the NPP. As we went around speaking to them, they admitted they have seen it — and they will demonstrate that by voting for us this time,” he added.
Mr Boadu emphasised that beyond the political contest, the overriding objective should be unity and stability.
