A youth activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred Ababio Kumi, has declared his intention to contest the position of National Youth Organiser of the party.
He pledged to mobilise young people across the country and reposition the party ahead of the 2028 general election.
He added that the party must restore hope and create opportunities for the youth to strengthen its grassroots base and secure electoral victory.
He made this known during a press conference in Accra last Monday, where he outlined a comprehensive agenda aimed at revitalising the party’s youth wing and expanding its national appeal.
Strategy
Addressing party faithful, youth organisers and members of the media, Mr Kumi said the time had come for a renewed focus on youth engagement, describing young people as the backbone of the party’s future electoral success.
He observed that in recent years, the party’s structures had weakened at various levels, stressing that a deliberate and coordinated effort was needed to restore vibrancy and effectiveness, particularly at the constituency and regional levels.
He noted that the average age across sections of the party’s active base underscored the urgent need for deliberate youth inclusion and structured leadership grooming.
Mr Kumi further explained that his vision is rooted in transforming every region into a formidable stronghold for the party through aggressive grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement with young people in both urban and rural communities.
He outlined plans to establish a National Youth Board to serve as a coordinating body for youth activities across the country.
He explained that the proposed board would enhance communication between the national leadership and grassroots youth structures, while ensuring that the concerns of young members are effectively addressed.
Additionally, he announced plans to establish youth mobilisation hubs across the country to strengthen community presence and improve the dissemination of the party’s policies and achievements.
These hubs, he said, would serve as centres for political education, skills training and volunteer coordination.
Mr Kumi emphasised that beyond political mobilisation, his leadership would prioritise practical opportunities for young people.
He identified skills development in technology, entrepreneurship, the arts, and industrial innovation as critical areas that must be prioritised to make the party more appealing to the youth demographic.
He further pledged to collaborate with youth-focused organisations and other key stakeholders to broaden participation and promote inclusivity within the party’s activities.
Outreach efforts
On logistics and operational capacity, Mr Kumi assured constituency and regional youth organisers of improved support to enhance their outreach efforts.
He said adequate mobility and resources were essential to effective mobilisation, particularly during electioneering periods.
Touching on the 2028 general election, he expressed confidence that a revitalised youth front would play a decisive role in securing victory for the party.
He stressed that unity, strategic planning and sustained hard work would be critical in achieving that objective.
Mr Kumi called on young members of the party across the country to rally behind his bid, stating that his campaign represented a movement aimed at restoring energy, discipline and purpose to the party’s youth wing.
He reaffirmed his commitment to service, accountability and results-driven leadership, saying that the future of the party depended on bold action and collective responsibility.
