The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured consumers and stakeholders that its meter billing system meets international standards. This comes after concerns were raised by a section of consumers about the fast depletion of prepaid units, a phenomenon they claim was not common until recently.
In a press release signed by ECG’s Communication Director, William Boateng, ECG indicated that all electricity meters deployed in the country undergo a rigorous testing and calibration process before installation.
“We wish to assure the general public that all electricity meters deployed by ECG undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure their accuracy. Our quality assurance processes are aligned with both national and international standards. ECG’s meter testing laboratory is state-of-the-art and comparable to leading facilities worldwide. In addition, all ECG meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) for compliance with approved standards before deployment,” a section of the statement read.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, General Manager of External Communications for ECG, Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku, maintained confidence in the accuracy and reliability of the meters, yet acknowledged that some consumers may have legitimate concerns. According to him, ECG has therefore begun investigations into the concerns raised by its customers, to ascertain the cause of the problems.
